A little more about the instructors:
Yoga Fire & Ice is a concept developed by Hilde Karlsen & Rachel Brownbridge to bring together their favourite modalities for mind, body and spirit, focusing on effective ways to calm the nervous system and connect with our senses. Combining restorative yoga and deep relaxation, with a unique sauna ritual and cold water bathing. This is a unique experience.
Yoga with Rachel
Rachel's unique approach to movement and yoga is loved by many and will leave you feeling awake, energised and more connected to yourself. Focusing on dynamic movement to improve posture and relieve the build-up of aches and pains. It also supports the function of the lymphatic and circulatory system.
Rachel has had her own studio and yogahours at Geilo for 5 years and is certified in 500hrs Listen yoga, is educated Yoga Nidra teaches, and has studied emotional anatomy and reiki. Her combined knowledge and experience allows you to soften and receive all the benefits of the session.
During your time with Rachel, you will experience Yoga Nidra, a somatically guided deep relaxation practice. Whilst this is a deeply relaxing and restorative practice for the mind and body, what's going on inside you is dynamically active. Helping the body to access its natural state of recovery. Rachel intentionally combines good movement and deep rest, as a way to access our true selves, and give our bodies the space and conditions for self-healing
Rachel is English-born and guides mostly in Norwegian, only yoga The nidra is guided in English.
Sauna and cold water exposure with Hilde
Hilde invites you to a full sensory experience in the sauna combined with cold water exposure. The mix of hot and cold awakens body and mind and provides a wonderfully refreshing experience. Anyone who enters a sauna will experience increased blood circulation. This happens because the heat makes the heart beat faster and the blood vessels dilate, helping the blood to flow much more easily around the body. Thanks to the increased heart rate, more of those "feel good" endorphins are released in the body, helping you to relax and feel happier.
Trained as Aufguss master & outdoor guide has been organising cold water exposure and saunas at Geilo and Ustaoset since 2018. Hilde invites you to aufguss, a unique bathing ritual, including essential oils, smoke, herbs, steam and music!
Cold water exposure is done under controlled conditions where safety is always in focus. Cold water therapy is known to increase oxygenated blood flow into areas of the body that need to recover, it is also linked to improved sleep quality, more focus and even an improved immune response. Hilde will guide you through the breathing and help you face the cold with inner strength. After that, it's common to feel increased energy and a general sense of happiness.
